What it is

A free POCUS logbook that builds your portfolio as you scan.

Wavelength is a point-of-care ultrasound logbook for doctors, advanced clinical practitioners, physician associates, nurses and other clinicians learning bedside ultrasound. You record each scan on your phone, your supervisor signs it off, assessments sit beside the scans they cover, and your progress against your pathway updates as you go.

When you are ready, you export a portfolio your supervisor, ARCP panel or accrediting body can check online. It is free, works offline, and runs in your browser or from your home screen on iPhone and Android.

From first scan to finished portfolio

Six steps, one app.

  1. 1

    Choose your pathway

Pick RCEM, FAMUS and FUSIC, an editable international framework (EUSEM, ACEM, CPoCUS and ACEP), several at once, or a general logbook with your own targets. You can adjust any target to match what your supervisor or local credentialing process asks for.

  2. 2

    Log every scan

Choose the scan type, tick the findings, record the supervision level and add images or a short clip. The app warns you if text looks like a patient identifier.

  3. 3

    Get signed off

Your supervisor signs on your phone, from a secure link on their own phone, or from their supervisor dashboard. Each sign-off has its own verification code.

  4. 4

    Record assessments

DOPS, formative, summative and final or triggered assessments, rated across six domains with an outcome and a signature. Summative, DOPS and final assessments count once judged competent.

  5. 5

    Track your progress

Each module shows total and supervised scans, required findings, reflections, assessments and training windows in red, amber or green, so you see exactly what is left.

  6. 6

    Export your portfolio

Choose where it is going and the app builds a PDF, Excel or CSV file, with the steps for that destination. A verified summary adds a code and QR code that reviewers scan to check your figures online.

Pathways and frameworks it tracks

Organised for your accrediting body.

Wavelength can apply one scan to multiple selected pathway trackers when it meets their configured criteria. A lung scan, for example, can count towards both the FAMUS Thoracic and FUSIC Lung trackers. Acceptance remains subject to each organisation, supervisor or local credentialing process.

UK

RCEM

Royal College of Emergency Medicine PoCUS

The app tracks: AAA, eFAST or FAFF, Echo in life support, Shock assessment, Vascular access and Fascia iliaca block.

UK

FAMUS

Focused Acute Medicine Ultrasound (Society for Acute Medicine)

The app tracks: Thoracic, Abdominal-renal, DVT, Peripheral access and Ultrasound-assisted LP.

UK

FUSIC

Focused Ultrasound in Intensive Care (Intensive Care Society)

The app tracks: Heart, Lung, Abdomen, DVT and Vascular access.

Europe · International framework

EUSEM

European Society for Emergency Medicine

Editable tracker: Chest: heart and lung, Abdominal and retroperitoneal, Genitourinary, Vessels, MSK and soft tissue, Ocular, Paediatrics, Procedures and Clinical scenarios.

Australia and New Zealand · International framework

ACEM

Australasian College for Emergency Medicine

Editable tracker: eFAST, AAA, Basic lung, Focused echo in life support (FELS) and Procedural guidance.

United States · International framework

ACEP

American College of Emergency Physicians

Editable tracker: Trauma (eFAST), Pregnancy, Cardiac and haemodynamic, Abdominal aorta, Airway and thoracic, Biliary, Urinary tract, DVT, Soft tissue and MSK, Ocular, Bowel and Procedural guidance.

The RCEM, FAMUS and FUSIC targets follow each body's published documents, checked on 4 October 2026. The EUSEM, ACEM, CPoCUS and ACEP trackers are editable starting frameworks, not checked against those organisations' current documents, so adapt them to your local requirements. Curricula change, so confirm requirements with your supervisor and the accrediting body or local credentialing process. Wavelength is independent and is not run or endorsed by RCEM, the Society for Acute Medicine, the Intensive Care Society, EUSEM, ACEM, CPoCUS, ACEP or any other body. Compare the pathways.

Evidence reviewers can check

Every record carries a code.

A paper logbook or spreadsheet asks reviewers to take the numbers on trust. Wavelength records carry verification codes anyone can check at thewavelength.co.uk/verify, with no account.

  1. SO-

    Sign-offs

Who signed, their stated role, how they signed and which scans they confirmed. Editing a signed scan voids its sign-off.

  2. AS-

    Assessments

The type, outcome, date and assessor of each structured assessment. Written feedback stays private.

  3. EV-

    Verified summaries

Your progress against each pathway, computed by Wavelength from your synced logbook. Counts and dates only.

  4. QR

    Scan to check

Every export, case PDF and sign-off register carries QR codes, so an edited file does not match the record online.

What it does not replace

Each body keeps its own forms.

Wavelength organises your evidence and shows your progress. Each accrediting body still asks for its own paperwork, and the logbook is built to sit alongside it.

  • RCEM: DOPS and the entrustment decision in the RCEM e-portfolio. RCEM sign-off guide
  • FAMUS: a FAMUS report sheet for every scan, countersigned by your mentor, and the ACT sent to SAM. FAMUS guide
  • FUSIC: the standard FUSIC reporting form for every scan, and a summary training record through the FUSIC portal. FUSIC guide

Wavelength is not yet connected directly to any accrediting body's system. You attach the export and paste the verification link.

Privacy by design

Your photos stay on your phone.

Images and clips live on your device and in backups you save to your own cloud storage. The built-in editor crops, rotates and covers identifiers, and saving strips hidden photo data. Only the written record syncs to your account.

When you share images with your supervisor in a sign-off link, your phone encrypts them first. Wavelength stores files it cannot open, and deletes them once your supervisor signs. The logbook must never contain patient-identifiable information. Read the logbook terms and privacy notice.

Questions

Good to know.

Installing on iPhone or Android, or asking about cost, images or sign-off on a phone? See download the app.

What is a POCUS logbook?
A record of every point-of-care ultrasound scan you perform while training: the scan type, the clinical question, your findings, how you were supervised and who reviewed it. Accrediting bodies and ARCP panels use it, with your assessments and reflections, to judge your progress towards sign-off.
What should a POCUS logbook record?
For each scan: a training reference (never a patient identifier), the date, the scan type and pathway module, the setting, the clinical question, the views obtained, image quality, findings, the supervision level, who supervised or reviewed it, formal imaging or outcome, and a reflection. RCEM accepts any logbook that captures its minimum dataset within data protection rules. FAMUS and FUSIC have their own report sheets and forms.
Which pathways and frameworks does it support?
UK pathways: RCEM, FAMUS and FUSIC. International pathways and frameworks, as editable trackers: EUSEM (Europe), ACEM (Australia and New Zealand), CPoCUS (Canada) and ACEP (United States). Plus a general logbook for any application with targets you set.
Can one scan count towards more than one pathway?
Wavelength can apply one scan to multiple selected pathway trackers when it meets their configured criteria. Acceptance remains subject to each organisation, supervisor or local credentialing process.
Will RCEM, SAM or the Intensive Care Society accept it?
RCEM accepts any logbook platform that captures the minimum dataset and meets data protection rules, although its preferred platform is the RCEM e-portfolio. FAMUS and FUSIC have their own report sheets, reporting forms and final paperwork, which you still complete. Your supervisor and the accrediting body decide what they accept. Wavelength is independent of all of them.
Does it replace my e-portfolio?
No. It organises your scans, sign-offs and assessments and builds a file for your portfolio. Choose the destination (the RCEM e-portfolio on risr/advance, the JRCPTB ePortfolio, FAMUS, FUSIC or appraisal) and the app shows the steps. It is not yet connected directly to any of these systems.
What is a QR-verified summary?
When you export, Wavelength can compute your progress against each pathway from your synced logbook and store a snapshot with a code and QR code. Your supervisor, ARCP panel or accrediting body scans it and sees the same figures and sign-offs online. It shows counts and dates only, never findings or images, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Can I use it outside the UK?
Yes. It has editable international frameworks for the EUSEM curriculum in Europe, ACEM's recommended credentialing framework in Australia and New Zealand, CPoCUS in Canada and ACEP's guidelines in the United States. They are starting points, not checked against each organisation's current documents, so adapt them to your local requirements. Credentialing is decided by your health service or hospital.
