FUSIC accreditation

Who it is for

Any healthcare professional, of any grade and specialty. Run by the Intensive Care Society (ICS). Intensive care is its home, and emergency and acute physicians often take FUSIC Heart.

Requirements at a glance

  • An approved mentor or trainer before you start.
  • Register and pay per module first. Access lasts 24 months.
  • The online training or an approved course: one or the other.
  • Logbook from first scan to last within 12 months, on the standard FUSIC reporting form.
  • No more than 10% of studies on healthy volunteers. Course scans do not count as directly supervised.

Who supervises

  • Heart Mentor: FUSIC Heart, BSE Level 1 or FEEL for at least 12 months.
  • Heart Supervisor: BSE, EACVI or ASE Level 2 echo, a FUSIC HD trainer, the European Diploma in Advanced Critical Care Echocardiography, or a cardiologist with regular echo sessions.
  • Trainer (other modules): accredited in the module, or FAMUS for Lung, Abdomen, DVT and Vascular, for at least 12 months.

Suggested sequence

  1. Find a mentor or trainer in the FUSIC Directory.
  2. Register, pay and enrol in the FUSIC portal.
  3. Complete the online training or an approved course.
  4. Plan the 12-month window, then start scanning sick patients.
  5. Review stored scans with your mentor or trainer every few weeks.
  6. Get competencies signed off and pass the triggered assessment.

Final sign-off

Submit the summary training record, signed by your mentor and supervisor (Heart) or trainer, through the FUSIC portal. Your certificate arrives by email. Apply for any extension at least four weeks before your 12-month window ends.
