Question 1Which appearance is typical of a haemorrhagic ovarian cyst?

Show answer

Answer c. Clotting blood forms fibrin strands that give a fishnet or reticular pattern. Flow inside a solid part suggests tissue, not clot.

Question 2How do you separate a retracting clot from a solid nodule?

Show answer

Answer b. A retracting clot pulls away from the wall, leaving a concave or straight margin, and has no blood supply. A solid nodule bulges into the cyst and often shows flow.

Question 3A patient with a complex adnexal cyst has a positive pregnancy test. What is the priority?

Show answer

Answer d. A positive pregnancy test changes the differential. A complex adnexal mass in early pregnancy needs ectopic pregnancy excluded.
